Summary
One of a pair of shoulder guards (sode), of seven plates appearing to be laced-together smaller plates (kiritsuke kozane), slighly curved to the arm, laced in dark blue with two rows of red cross-knots (hishinui) and a row of multi-coloured braid (takuboku no himo) on the lowest plate. The upper edge of the top plate is angled outwards and is covered with leather held in place by a shakudō (copper and gold alloy) rim and ornamented with shakudō ornaments (kanamono).

Purchased by Charles Paget Wade (1883–1956) from Wyndham Payne, 29 Portland Street, Cheltenham, 31 March 1943 (£6 for four dressed figures); given to the National Trust with Snowshill Manor, 1951.
