Summary
Ridged helmet (suji kabuto), Japanese, the iron bowl (hachi) made up of 24 plates, with a round crown ornament (tehen no kanamono), two single ornamental metal strips (shinodare) extending from the crown down the front and back of the bowl and a front crest (maedate) in the shape of an antlered demon (oni) in lacquered wood.
Provenance
Purchased by Charles Paget Wade (1883-1956) from James Whitaker, 68 Bridge Street, Cambridge, 17 June 1940, for £4 10s; given by Wade to the National Trust with Snowshill Manor, 1951.
