Summary

Oil painting on canvas, The Madonna and Child (after Francia) by Luigi Garelli (fl.1876), signed, dated and inscribed lower right, Luigi Garelli / Copio 1876, after Francesco Francia. Within substantial gilt frame (with some damage to corners) and a brass candle sconce on each side. Probably after Francia's 'Madonna and Child in a Rose Garden' in the collection of the Galleria Borghese, Rome (061).

Provenance

Purchased by the National Trust from the estate of the late George Richard Lawley Gibbs, 2nd Baron Wraxall (1928 – 2001) with the assistance of the NHMF, Art Fund and donations from members and supporters in 2002
