Summary
Oil painting on canvas, June Evening by Margaret L. R. Tudor (d. 1969), signed M L R Tudor, early-mid 20th century. A view across a field or meadow towards tall elm trees in full leaf in the background. A white gate or fence can be seen below the trees in the centre. Shadows fall across the field in the foreground and the scene is brightly lit. The paint is loosely and thickly applied, with use of a palette knife in places, and the style is impressionistic.
Provenance
Purchased by the National Trust with the house and gardens from Mrs Ursula Tudor Perkins with the help of a grant from the NHMF in 1990
Marks and inscriptions
Lower left: M L R Tudor Verso: a paper label on the back of the painting bears the artist's name and the address of A La Ronde. Also marked on the label: £12.12s.
