Summary
Oil painting on canvas, East Garston, a Village in Berkshire by Margaret L. R. Tudor (1884-1969), signed: M L R Tudor, early-mid 20th century. A wide country lane with a thatched barn at the right and further along the lane on the left, two weatherboarded cottages with thatched roofs. A young girl wearing a blue cap, lilac smock and white apron stands in the lane in front of the cottages. Behind her, the lane bends round to the right and more thatched barns or cottages beside two large trees can be seen in a field in the distance. Above is a clear, pale blue sky dotted with small white clouds. The scene is brightly lit from the right with pools of light falling onto the lane. The paint is thickly applied and the style is impressionistic. Margaret Tudor lived in the village of East Garston 1884-1923 where her father was the incumbent.. This view is of front street and is little altered 100 years later.
