Summary
Portrait miniature, watercolour on ivory, Rebecca Parminter (d.c.1750) by British (English) School, c.1750. Oval. Head and shoulders portrait, turned to the right, head turned to the left and gazing to the left, wearing a blue dress with a blue and white colar, and a white cap with blue bow in the centre. Large brown eyes, long brown hair in ringlets on shoulders, pale face modelled with blue stipple, smiling expression, long neck, aged about 15. Plain light grey background. 1 of a group of 7 miniature painted pendant portraits in oval gold settings. Mounted together in oval gilt frame. Rebecca Parminter died age 15.
Provenance
Original Parminter item that was removed by Stella Tudor upon her marriage in 1880; taken with her to the vicarages of Turkdean then East Garston and, after her death, with her husband to Reading. Upon his death this item was recorded in both the 1925 and the 1930 Probate and Valuation Inventory and was then passed to his daughters Margaret and Stella Tudor who returned it to A La Ronde upon Margaret’s purchase of the property in 1930. It was purchased from Mrs Tudor Perkins in 1991.
