I'm Amy, one of the conservation assistants at A la Ronde. My job involves winding all the clocks, this one is particulalry well behaved! Whether it is late or early most of our clocks are determined by the weather and the humidity.
Summary
Eight day English longcase clock in oak case by William Stumbels, Totnes c.1760. Two-train, five-pillar movement with anchor escapement and rack striking on a bell. Lead driving weights. 12” square brass dial with urn and scroll spandrels. Polished brass chapter ring with roman hour numerals, arabic 5 minute figures and fleur de lis half-hour markers. Seconds dial with arabic five-seconds numerals, square calendar aperture and segmental name plate signed “Willm Stumbels TOTNES” in matted dial centre. Plain oak case with low inverted bell top to hood with small glazed windows to sides, carved panel above hood door and plain oak pilasters. Rectangular trunk door and skirting.
