Summary
Eight-day long case clock in a floral marquetry case with movement by Pinn of Exeter, c1700 / 1780. Two-train, four-pillar movement with anchor escapement and rack hour striking on a bell. 12” square brass dial with rococo spandrels. Silvered-brass chapter ring with roman numerals and arabic five-minute figures. Seconds dial and semi-circular calendar aperture in silvered-brass dial engraved with a landscape and a ship. Signed “Pinn Exmouth” on a curved silvered-brass plaque above VI. Blued steel hands. The marquetry case has a rectangular, flat-top hood with plain gilt-wood capped columns to sides. The rectangular trunk door has floral marquetry with birds and flowers and an oval pendulum lenticle. Rectangular base with low skirting, the case sides veneered in walnut. A maker named Richard Pinn is recorded working in Exmouth between 1786 to 1800.
