Summary
Oil painting on canvas, John Egerton, 1st Earl of Bridgewater (1579-1649), Fred Spencer (fl. 1900-29), 1913, after an original portrait in the Egerton Collection, Ashridge. A half-length portrait of a man, turned slightly to the right, gazing at the spectator, light-brown shoulder-length hair, moustache and pointed beard, wearing a black jerkin, falling lace ruff, silver and gold brocade sleeves and silver sword belt. Within a painted oval. A 20th-century copy of an original portrait in the Egerton Collection, Ashridge, attributed to the British School, c. 1617-19, or possibly Paul van Somer (c. 1577-1621).
