Flintlock blunderbuss of massive proportions, English c1690.
Full description
English flintlock blunderbuss of massive proportions, c1690. Round tapering brass barrel of massive proportions, decorated with incised lines, the muzzle strongly flared. Iron barrel tang. Retained to the stock by 2 barrel pins. The ramrod missing. Barrel length 62cm. Diameter at muzzle 67mm. Walnut full stock with carved apron to the barrel tang and profile carving to the lock recess. Brass furniture comprising; thin butt plate (nailed on), trigger guard with front and rear decorative finials and 1 ramrod pipe (no rear ramrod pipe). Flintlock of rounded form, the lockplate strongly curved and terminating with a long tail finial. Unsigned. Rounded S-shaped cock with a decorative scrolling comb and a decorative finial to the frizzen spring. Internally the lock has no bridle to the tumbler and has a U-shaped makers mark (unrecorded). Retained to the stock by 2 side-nails. Overall length: 102cm
