Full description
One of a pair of flintlock pistols, Turkish c1800. Round iron barrel, slightly flattened at the breech. The breech engraved (worn), the remainder of the barrel formed with a raised line along the top to the muzzle. Retained to the stock by a small band of brass wire. False wooden ramrod carved integrally with stock. Barrel length 32.5 cm. Calibre 16 mm. Wooden full stock inlaid with intricate brass geometric rondels; the upper side of the grip with crude chequering and carving to the barrel tang apron and forestock. Iron furniture comprising; bulbous butt cap with long side spur and having a raised pommel, trigger guard with decorative finial, pierced sideplate with a mask design, and 1 baluster form ramrod pipe. Scroll form iron trigger. Engraved flintlock of flat form, the thick curved lockplate with strongly bevelled edges. Retained to the stock by 2 sidenails. Overall length: 49.5cm.
