Summary
Pot-pourri or pastille-burner (Räuchergefäss), hard-paste porcelain, designed by Johann Peter Melchior (1747-1825), of compressed urn shape with lion’s mask handles on four lions paw feet, with moulded drapery swag, pierced shoulders and base (missing cover), cobalt blue ground with gilt details, marked with a crowned wheel and HI in gold, for Höchst, Höchst am Main, Germany, c. 1779.
