Summary
An early seventeenth-century French upholstered armchair, made of beech and oak, with rectangular back and seat. The upholstery and frame are entirely covered with crimson woollen damask with a deep crimson fringe. The octagonal legs joined with rectangular stretcher with deep stretcher beneath the front rail.
Provenance
Knole and the majority of its furniture were accepted by HM Treasury in part payment of death duties and transferred to the National Trust in 1946.
