Summary
One of a set of four mahogany upholstered stools on cabriole legs with turned stretchers, English, c.1720-1730. The drop-in seats are covered in red silk embroidered with the British royal arms in gold and silver thread. 129475.1 and 129475.2 bear the arms and cipher of William III while 129475.3 and 129475.4 bear the arms and cipher of Queen Anne. The upholstery is likely to have been adapted from trumpet tabards.
Provenance
Knole and the majority of its furniture were accepted by HM Treasury in part payment of death duties and transferred to the National Trust in 1946.
