Summary
A mahogany coat stand, adapted from a George III bedpost and possibly a tripod table, British, created circa 1910, a circular disc with moulded rim forming the top, four brass triple-hooks affixed to the underside of this disc, the disc supported on a slender reeded and fluted column with leaf and corn-motif carvings to the base, supported on a tripod base with foliate carving to the knees, the underside centred with a ball finial, the legs terminating in claw and ball feet.
Provenance
In 1937 Sir Geoffrey Mander and his wife Rosalie gifted Wightwick Manor, its contents and gardens to the National Trust. Sir Geoffrey and his family continued to occupy and manage Wightwick adding to the collection in collaboration with the National Trust. Sir Geoffrey died in 1962 but Lady Mander continued to live at Wightwick until her death in 1988.
