Summary
A joined oak settle, Welsh, mid 17th century Originally a settle-table with a retractable plank top that would sit on the high arms of the seat and then slide behind to create a back panel when not in use (top now missing). The back with twin panels carved with the initials T.D. and M.D. and with the numbers 15 and 16 each divided by flower head rosettes and flanked by figural pilasters supporting the shaped arms. The front of the arms held by turned baluster supports continuing to ring turned legs. The plank seat above a frieze carved with stylized birds amid scrolling foliage and flowers with a further central ring turned leg. With a twin paneled lower back and shelf with molded frame raised on turned feet.
