Summary
Portrait miniature, parchment stuck on card, Sir Edward Astley (1603 –1653) by John Hoskins the elder (Wells c.1590 – London 1665). Father of Sir Jacob Astley, 1st Baronet. Signed with initials IH and dated 1651. Long curling brown hair and upturned moustache, wearing a black gown with a lawn collar tied with a full tassel, brown background, inscribed: 'AETA47', in a contemporary gold locket, the black and suspension loop enamelled in opaque cerulean blue. Note: this was purchased by the Trust by private treaty in February 2012. Previously LH......
