Summary
A cushion cover in original Morris & Co. Jasmine Trellis fabric, designed by William Morris c.1868-70. It was his earliest known design for textiles. Shaw used the cover on a cushion he sat on whilst working in his writing hut: a press photograph shows him seated on the Dryad chair in the hut, using this cover on a cushion (NT Shaw Photographs 1715219.13). White cotton cushion cover with printed pattern of bamboo trellis and flowering climbing plants in shades of brown and green, with piped edging.
Provenance
The Shaw Collection. The house and contents were bequeathed to the National Trust by George Bernard Shaw in 1950, together with Shaw's photographic archive.
