Summary
Oil painting on canvas, General Sir George Anson (1769-1849) by Thomas Barber the elder (Nottingham 1771 - Nottingham 1843), inscribed on the back of the stretcher with the sitter's name: T. Barber 1815. A half-length portrait, turned slightly to the left, gazing at the spectator, brown hair, long sideburns, wearing a General's red uniform and the Order of the Bath.
Provenance
Transferred to the National Trust with Shugborough’s park and contents of the state rooms, in part-payment of death-duties to the Treasury, following the death of Thomas, 4th Earl of Lichfield (1883 - 1960)
