Summary
Oil painting on canvas, General Sir William Anson, 1st Bt (1772–1847) by Thomas Barber the elder (1771-1843), 1815. A half-length portrait, turned slightly to the right, gazing to the right, short grey hair, sideburns, wearing a red Generals uniform wearing various orders including that of the Bath. Created Baronet in 1831. Third son of George Anson and Mary Vernon.
Provenance
Transferred to the National Trust with Shugborough’s park and contents of the state rooms, in part-payment of death-duties to the Treasury, following the death of Thomas, 4th Earl of Lichfield (1883 - 1960)
