Caption
Faith, along with Hope and Charity, was one of the theological virtues. Her attributes are a chalice and a cross against an open book, showing that it represents the biblical scriptures. This ceiling painting was once at the Palazzo Grimani by Santa Maria Formosa on the Grand Cana,l Venice and acquired by William John Bankes (1786-1855) during the siege of Venice by the Austrians in 1849.
