Summary
Bracket clock - Charles II Eight-day, English, pull quarter repeating and striking spring clock in ebonised case by Francis Raynsford, London. Two-train fusee movement with round tapered 'Egyptian' style pillars. Anchor escapement, outside locking plate striking and pull quarter repeating on two bells. Backplate and locking plate profusely engraved. Maker's name signed 'Francis Rynsford, London' on separate rectangular plate fixed to backplate. Square brass dial with winged cherub spandrels. Silvered brass chapter ring with Roman numerals and small Arabic five minute figures. Engraved square calender aperture below XII, and ringed winding holes in matted dial centre. Steel hands. Ebonised fruitwood basket top case with glazed sides and repousse'd brass decoration to front door. Brass claw feet to base. Shaped brass carrying handle.
Provenance
It could be one of the two clocks purchased from Raynsford in the summer of 1693, by John Bankes the Elder, at Pnd 12 each.
