A short history of the castle appears in the lower margin. The top image represents Corfe Castle in its supposed original state, (see close up) with the 1774 ruins beneath. Kingston Hall was the seat of Henry Bankes, the owner of Corfe Castle at that time
Provenance
The Henry Bankes mentioned in the inscription must be Henry Bankes the Elder (1698-1776) who inherited Kingson Hall in 1772.
