Summary
Pastel on paper, A Girl (La fille en extase) (after Greuze) by Harriet Woodley, Mrs Thomas Pickard (1765-1844). A half-length of a young girl, in a white dress after an originla paintig of 1796 by Jean-Bapiste Greuze (Tournus 1725 – Paris 1805) which was successively in the collections of Louis XIV's extravagant finance minister Calonne (1734-1802), and of Robert Smith, 1st Baron Carrington (1752-1838).
Provenance
In list of around 1800 as by 'Mrs Richard' [sic] and 'Mrs Pickard' in 1835 inventory; bequeathed to the National Trust by (Henry John) Ralph Bankes (1902-1981) together with the estate and entire contents of Kingston Lacy
