A studio portrait of of Hugh a 2nd Lieutenant in the 1st Life Guards Regiment.
Full description
Hugh is wearing mounted review unform as befits a Staff Officer. His breast plate is highly polished, the cross belt would have been red in colour. The bronze Royal Humane Society Lifesaving medal he is wearing, on the right, was awarded for saving a young man from drowning in a canal in Hampshire in1890. Signed 'Hugh Fraser'. There is a photograph of his father, James Keith Fraser in the collection:1247633 Hugh Fraser was in the 1st Life Guards, as was Ronald Greville. He saw active service in the Boer War, 1899 - 1900, becoming a Captain in 1899. In 1897 Hugh attended the Duchess of Devonshire's Ball, as did Margaret Greville. He was dressed as the Duke of Taris, his sister, Helena Violet Alice Fraser, dresses as Delilah, an African Queen. Hugh married Dorothy Villers on 9th July 1904. They had a daughter Katherine Keith, who was baptised on 22nd October 1905. Hugh died on 19th May 1906 in Holbeton, South Hams, Devon.
