Not come from the collections of either William McEwan or Mrs Greville; probably either accepted as a gift by a Historic Building Representative (HBR;NT) or abandoned by a tenant at the property when the first floor rooms were used as flats.

Typed note on revese: "THE VILLAGE CHURCH." / Original Oil Painting / by / ALFRED CLINT. / Born in London in 1807. Was a son and pupil of / George Clint. Exhibited bewteen 1828 and 1881, / chiefly at the Suffolk Street Galleries but also at / the Royal Academy (1829-71), and at the British / Institution. He was elected a Member of the Society / of British Artists in 1842, Secretary in 1858, and President in 1870. / He specialised in painting landscape and coast / scenes, and was the author of 'Landscape from Nature'. / He died in 1883 and was buried at Kensal Green.
