Summary
Jasper study of an owl on a perch, c.1903–08, by Fabergé. Modelled in dark brown and black jasper, the owl with head turned to the side, the claws in silver encircling a cylindrical silver stand with matching pedestal indistinctly stamped ’88’; silver foot chain attachment. Mounted on a rectangular white oblong chalcedony plinth. Rose diamond eyes deficient. Unsigned; scratch inventory number 4872.
Provenance
The bequest of Margaret (Anderson) McEwan, The Hon. Mrs Ronald - later Dame Margaret - Henry Fulke Greville, DBE (1863-1942) from probate records linked with the donation of the property to the National Trust in 1943.
