Summary
Frosted golden brown quartz study of a French bulldog, c.1925. In seated pose with splayed front legs, its eyes set with sapphire cabochons in gold collets and wearing a gold collar set all round with pale sapphires suspending below a large greenish blue sapphire ‘dog tag’ with gold broken chain attachment. Scratch engraved ‘VIII’ on the base.
Provenance
The bequest of Margaret (Anderson) McEwan, The Hon. Mrs Ronald - later Dame Margaret - Henry Fulke Greville, DBE (1863-1942) from probate records linked with the donation of the property to the National Trust in 1943. This item found on the record for Polesden Lacey miniatures and small objects in the strong room, page 120.
