Caption
This painting attests to McTaggart’s abiding interest in the people and topography of the west coast of Scotland where he was raised, the son of a crofter. Its title refers to the standing little boy's dreams of adult life as he away turns from the game of toy boats on the beach and gazes out to a masted ship out at sea.
