Summary
A mahogany open armchair, English, circa 1770, with serpentine toprail, pierced vase-shaped splat and drop-in seat between very deep shaped seat rails between open arms. On four chamfered square-section legs. Possibly this was once a commode chair.

Date of acquisition not recorded; bequeathed by Margaret McEwan, The Hon. Mrs Ronald Greville (1863-1942) with Polesden Lacey, to the National Trust, in memory of her father, William McEwan (1827-1913) in 1942.
