Summary
Oil painting on canvas, A Holstein Peasant Woman, by Miss F. Westphal (active 1864-1867), signed and dated 1867. A three-quarter length picture of a woman, seated at a table, turned slightly to the left, looking towards the viewer, holding a cup in her right hand, pouring chocolate into a saucer held in her left.
Provenance
Purchased by William George Armstrong, 1st Baron Armstrong of Cragside (1810-1900) in 1869; thence by descent; transferred by the Treasury to The National Trust in 1977 via the National Land Fund, aided by 3rd Baron Armstrong of Bamburgh and Cragside (1919 - 1987).
