Summary
Sprengel type (?) vacuum pump, glass tubing partly missing. Mahogany upright stand with two shaped bars at base supporting a tray and vertical board, two square shelves hold glass tubes of varying sizes by metal clips and hooks screwed to their edges; a D-shaped 'hood' protrudes forward from top of the board with a circular disc cut out from centre, inscribed 'F Robson, Optician, 46 Dene Street, Newcastle-on-Tyne'. Accompanied by four glass tubes.
Provenance
Armstrong collection. Transferred by the Treasury to The National Trust in 1977 via the National Land Fund, aided by 3rd Baron Armstrong of Bamburgh and Cragside (1919 - 1987).
