Summary
Pencil drawing on blue tinted paper heightened in white, General Wray's illustration of the conundrum "How will he get to the Hay?", attributed to Lieutenant-General Henry Wray, CMG (1826-1900), September 1885. A haystack on the left and a tethered donkey on the right. The drawing was presumably in the collection of the industrialist Sir Andrew Noble (1831-1915), Lord Armstrong's partner in Sir W. G. Armstrong, Whitworth and Co., Ltd.

Presumably in the collection of the industrialist Sir Andrew Noble (1831-1915); thence by descent; given to the National Trust by Mrs Yseult Cochrane (granddaughter of Sir Andrew Noble) in 1981.
