Summary
Woodblock print, ink and pigments on paper, the left-hand section of a triptych entitled Sono no Ume (The plum garden), from the series Fūryū Genji (Fashionable Prince Genji), after Utagawa Hiroshige (1797–1858), 1853, signed lower left Hiroshige hitsu (brush of Hiroshige). Depicting a grove of flowering plum trees, with a female figure standing on a stepping stone in a stream gazing at Prince Genji (who features in the missing central section of the triptych). Provenance
Armstrong collection. Transferred by the Treasury to The National Trust in 1977 via the National Land Fund, aided by 3rd Baron Armstrong of Bamburgh and Cragside (1919 - 1987).
