Summary
Institute of Archaeology 2008: Wooden box containing 61 objects; Cu alloy nails, stone, shells, 4 obsidian blades. Stuart Blaylock 2008: Box viii [Kodak film box], marked ‘Seal impressions’ Seven prehistoric stamp seal impressions taken in plasticine from seals found at Tell Brak, numbers incised on rear: GM 112; G73; G5; G1; G2; G80; 176 [or GL1?]. Also four plaster casts of later cylinder seals inscribed (in French) on rear: No. 1, en agate, Epoque Perse; No. 2, en haematite, hittite; No. 3, en haematite, Epoque Hittite; No. 4, en os [or ‘or’? check], hittite. These are not from Tell Brak (and none of the designs match the cylinder seal impressions published from Brak: Mallowan 1947, pls 21–22), conceivably they are purchases that were deposited in a museum, and casts taken in plaster of paris as a record of the impressions. Four of the seven stamp-seal impressions have been identified in publications as follows (always Mallowan 1947, the main report on Tell Brak, unless otherwise specified). G.1 G.2 Brak Mallowan 1947, 104; pl. 12, 1(b). G.5 Brak Mallowan 1947, 104–5; pl. 12, 3(a) and (b). G.73 G.80 G.176 Brak Mallowan 1947, pl. 20, no. 17. GM.112 Possibly from Tell Mefesh, cf. Mallowan 1946, 157, where another seal from tell Mefesh is ‘GM111’ (and objects from Tells Hammam and Jidle are ‘GH…’ and GJ….’ respectively).
