Summary
Institute of Archaeology 2008: Cardboard box. 'Edward Henry Sermon'. Containing one iodine pen, one pencil, seven vertebrae, one idol fragment (stone), one shell fragment, two plasticine impressions .Stuart Blaylock 2008: Card box with six knuckle bones, one coarse fragment of eye idol or other amulet in white limestone; one seal impression, of a kidney-shaped amulet/seal (cf. Mallowan 1947, pl. 17); and one shell fragment (Murex sp.), pierced for suspension. No labels, no marking on the box. Ingots of silver or lead in the shape of sheep’s knuckle bones are reported from Chagar Bazar (Mallowan 1937, fig. 12, nos 35–36); but I have not yet come across a reference to bones themselves in published reports. Not, apparently, in the photographs of the cabinet taken by me on 13.ix.06, so altogether of unknown and therefore dubious provenance.
