Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Charles Stewart, Viscount Castlereagh, later 7th Marquess of Londonderry aged 10, attributed to Sarah Henrietta Purser (Dún Laoghaire 1848 - Dublin 1943), signed in monogram, dated and inscribed at top right 'Charles Stewart, Viscount Castlereagh, aged 10, 1888, SHP', 1888. A half-length portrait of Charles Stewart, then Viscount Castlereagh, as a young boy, turned to the left. He is dressed as a pageboy to the Order of St Patrick, wearing a pale blue silk jacket (the colour of the Order of St Patrick), trimmed with white Irish lace. Charles wore this costume for his father’s investiture as Viceroy of Ireland two years earlier in 1886. Exhibited at the Royal Hibernian Academy, 1889, no. 145.
