Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Lady Alexandrina Octavia Maria Vane, Countess of Portarlington (1823-1874) by James Godsell Middleton (1805 – London 1874). A full-length portrait, turned slightly to the right, of the second daughter of Charles William, 3rd Marquess of Londonderry, and his second wife Frances Anne Vane-Tempest, standing in a landscape. She wears a white satin crinoline dress, with a posy of flowers at her waist. Over her right arm is a shawl, and in her left hand she holds the ribbons of her hat. She married Henry Dawson-Damer, 3rd Earl of Portarlington (1822-1889) in 1847.
Provenance
Presumably painted for the sitter's father, the 3rd Marquess of Londonderry; thence by descent; given to the National Trust by Lady Mairi Bury (1921-2009) in 1976
