Oil painting on board, Sir Charles Stewart Henry Vane-Tempest-Stewart, Viscount Castlereagh and 7th Marquess of Londonderry (1878-1949), by Philip Alexius de László de Lombos (Budapest 1869 – London 1937), signed and dated 1914. A head-and-shoulders portrait study of Viscount Castlereagh, later 7th Marquess of Londonderry, turned to the right, wearing military uniform. Inscribed verso: painted in four hours with interval of tea - the day before the departure of C.V. to the front against Germany. P. de L

Probably painted for the 7th Marquess when he was Viscount Castlereagh, or for his wife; thence by descent to their youngest child, Lady Mairi Bury (1921-2009) by whom given to the National Trust in 1976
