Summary
One of a pair of Empire ormolu candelabra each of six lights, five scroll branches, ornately decorated with acanthus leaves and flowers, on baluster columns richly decorated with acanthus leaves, rectangular plinth bases, with winged cherub in relief on front face, wreath of leaves on two sides, base of plinth bordered with floral pattern.Family tradition records that these were given to Viscount Castlereagh by Pope Pius VII, c1815, in gratitude for assisting with the return of looted goods to the Vatican following the defeat of Napoleon I.
