Summary
Eighteenth-century, 8-day duration longcase clock in a red-painted pine case with raised gilt decoration. Signed on a flat boss in the break-arch dial, ‘Thos Becket DURHAM’. The centre of the dial plate having engraved scroll decoration, subsidiary seconds dial above the centre and a square date aperture below the centre. Silvered chapter ring. Scroll spandrels with sea-serpent/dolphin spandrels in the arch. Engraved brass chapter ring with Roman hour markers and Arabic five-minute numerals. Movement with four knopped, ringed and finned pillars, rack striking on a single bell. Deadbeat escapement. The lifting/warning piece has bi-lateral trip repeating pins.
