Summary
A padouk corner chair, one of a set of five, possibly Goan, 18th century, the semi-circular shaped top rail terminating in scrolls, applied with shaped section towards the centre of the top rail, supported on three shaped and pierced backsplats, the armrest section supported on curved and groove-carved uprights, the seat with serpentine-shaped front rail carved with scrolled and applied with foliate motifs, the seat upholstered in close-nailed wool gros-point with a yellow and red flower and star motif on an olive green ground, on four shaped and tapering legs terminating in shaped feet carved with scrolls and acanthus leaves.
