Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Frederick William Robert Stewart, 4th Marquess of Londonderry (1805-1872) by James Godsell Middleton (1805 – London 1874). A full-length portrait of the 4th Marquess of Londonderry, standing, wearing a blue sash over military uniform. On a black sash is the cipher of the Royal North Down Rifles. Behind him is a red curtain, and a column to the right. On the plinth is a box inscribed DOWN, and a scroll in front of it. Inscribed on the scroll and dated 18th August 1856. In the background is a view of Strangford Lough, with Scrabo Hill and the tower built in memory of the 3rd Marquess in the far distance, known as the Londonderry Monument.

On loan to the National Trust from Lady Mairi Bury (1921-2009), 1976, then accepted by HM Government in lieu of Inheritance Tax and allocated to the National Trust, 2013
