Summary
One of a set of three chair back covers for single dining chairs, made of the same material as the curtains, the 'Peacock and Dragon' pattern in greens and pinks, designed by William Morris in 1878. The covers were presumably made for the chairs which had their backs to the fire and were designed to protect the wood from blistering with the heat. (The curtains were ordered for Standen in 1897, and were the original curtains for this room). This chair back cover shows a pair of peacocks.
