Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Girl in White by James Charles (Warrington 1851 – Wales 1906), signed JCHARLES (JC in monogram). A three-quarter-length portrait of a young girl, seated, turned to the right, gazing at the spectator holding a posy of flowers in her left hand and wearing a white dress with a dark sash. The artist studied Academy Julian in Paris and became a member of the New English Art Club (NEAC) in 1886. This painting reflects the enthusaism for Spanish painting and influence of Manet.
