Summary
A mahogany and inlaid open armchair, English, circa 1910. The back with vertical slats, the outer two shaped as stylised tulips, below a toprail with sinuous floral inlay in Art Nouveau style, the arms with square block terminals raised on square supports which continue down to become the legs and terminate in block feet, also joined by stretchers, the upholstered seat with serpentine front rail, embossed metal label beneath seat GOODYERS REGENT ST. & BOND ST. Full description
Goodyers of Regent Street was an upmarket London store, comparable to and a rival to Liberty's. It was well known for its range of Arts & Crafts furniture by designers such as George Walton and Leonard Wyburd. Founded by F.B.Goodyer, a former partner in the firm of Liberty's, he initially opened The Aesthetic Gallery on Bond Street in 1887, later expanding to Regent Street.
