Full description
Flintlock blunderbuss signed Barwick, late 18th century (George & Charles Barwick, Upper Market St. Norwich 1797; Pottergate St., Norwich 1804). Brass barrel of cannon form, octagonal at the breech then round to the muzzle with reinforcing rings. Breech stamped with proof marks of the London Gunmakers Company. At the muzzle is a top mounted spring activated steel bayonet, the blade of triangular section and fluted (length 33cm). The bayonet release catch is mounted on the barrel tang. Retained to the stock by 2 barrel pins. Wooden ramrod (replacement). Barrel length 36.8cm. Diameter at muzzle 31mm. Walnut full stock. Plain brass furniture comprising; butt-plate, trigger guard with acorn finial, long flat sideplate with fixing screw, escutcheon and 2 ramrod pipes. Flintlock with flat and bevelled plate signed BARWICK. Sliding safety bolt behind cock. Cock perhaps an old replacement. Retained to the stock by 2 sidenails. Overall length: 77.8cm.
