Summary
A chestnut hall chair or sgabello, Italian, mid 17th century the back carved with the winged head of an angel above a heart shaped pierced motif and a figure holding a spear and some feathers amongst grape vines with an armorial shield below, the dished seat with canted front corners and carved edge, raised on a shaped solid front support carved with scrolls and a cartouche For another hall chair at Oxburgh Hall with a near identicle back see NT1209862 The front support on this chair has been replaced with an oak cartouche and the back and seat are made from walnut rather than chestnut but are almost certainly by the same hand.

Purchased at the sale of the Bryan Hall Collection in 2004 by the National Trust.
