Summary
A walnut kneehole dressing table, or kneehole desk, English, mid-18th century (with some later elements). The (probably re-veneered) top with both cross and chequer-banding and with moulded edge. All above a long upper drawer. The kneehole topped by a shallow drawer with spandrelled front above a recessed cupboard door enclosing a shelf. Flanked to either side by a bank of three short drawers, each raised on a later bracket plinth and with later castors. All of the drawers crossbanded and cockbeaded and fitted with later turned ebonized handles.
Provenance
Date of introduction to Greenway not recorded, but given to the National Trust by Mrs Rosalind Hicks (d. 2004), Anthony Hicks (d. 2005) and Mathew Prichard in 2006, and accepted in 2007.
