Summary
Ferguson 'Teapot and cover (.2)[and stand .3], earthenware (pottery), of traditional form, the domed cover with teapot finial, applied with sprig moulded flowers and banners inscribed 'FORGET ME NOT' covered in a flowing brown glaze, with polychrome enamel painted details, possibly William Mason of Poole Pottery, near Church Gresley, South Derbyshire c 1885'. Note; This material is known as 'Bargeware' or 'Measham ware'. Measham was a village on the Ashby-de-la-Zouche Canal where goods were sold to the boatmen working and living on the barges. By the late 19th century canals had been replaced by railways and turned into a place of tourism. Orders for pottery with personalized inscriptions were placed through a Mrs Brown's canal side shop in Measham and made in nearby Church Gresley. Their rich pattern reflect the ornate decoration of the barges.'
